I taught a workshop! ( and here's a give-away!)

I taught a small group a bit about fabric collage -- using transparencies, transparent fabrics -- a bit on stamping fabrics. I know what to do next time (handouts would be good). But we all made lots of fun collages. I brought my camera, but forgot to use it (I get too caught up in the moment). I know that I was teaching -- but I couldn't help making a few things too.

The first picture was my demo -- it's a 5x5 collage of fabric and fibers and a transparency.
These little pieces are pins! They are less than 2" wide or long...

Thank you so much to Kelley -- who let me teach at her house -- and made lunch for us! And thank you to Lesley and Camille for being my "guinea pigs". And all of you are very accomplished sewers and each of you taught me something......

*** I am going to give away the 5x5 collage that I made -- It's called Mother Love. I'm going to draw for it next Sunday on Mother's Day. To enter the give-away, all you have to do is comment on this post, telling me why your mother is [or was :( ] the best!

My mom was an incredibly magical woman in so many diverse ways and she taught me so much about life just by the way she interacted in it.She reminded me often to use my intuition that gut feeling as it was natural flow.i miss her everyday and appreciate when those moments of magic swirl about as i know its her checking in.

My Mum always encouraged me, that I could do things and not to get all uptight about it. She believed in me and I always knew she loved me. I still miss her so much. When I was young, I was upset that I couldn't cut out paper images well. She gave me the old eaton's catalogues and told me to just cut things out and not worry about it! She was a very smart, talented, loving, supportive woman.

My mom taught me that I should try my best but that it's OK not to be perfect and HAVE FUN too!!! I know that she loves me unconditionally and she is just the best :) I am so lucky to have her as my mom!

As always Martha, your art is absolutely incredible!! I was wondering if you sold your pins, because I would LOVE to buy some! You sent one for christams and I absolutely adore it! Let me know! :)

About my mom...do you have a year?! heh heh. She died when I was 17 and ours was a rocky relationship because she was paranoid scizophrenic. But, she was a woman who loved to give to others when she was well and she taught me that giving brougt everyone joy, not just yourself. My 2 best memories are of her taking us to a local bakery and buying parmesan cheese sticks - YUM! And wrapping up little boxes of things like candy, small toys and the like and putting them out under the decorated tree at the front of the driveway. So for two weeks before christmas, all the local kids knew they could come to that tree and choose little presents to take home! I've never forgotten peeking out the kitchen window with my little brother and watching the wee ones choose a present! :)

Martha, what a cool class to teach. And, your pins are terrific.

My mom was a rebel before being a rebel was popular and knew to follow her own heart and instincts while still behaving like a lady. She died at the age of 74 almost 20 years ago and I still miss her.

Hey!!!! you didn't tell me about the workshop. I coulda been a student! Yes, I believe I have much to learn from you.

My mother was a great role model; she left an abusive marriage against all odds, trained for a nursing and midwifery career, was the best at what she did, and excelled despite her lifelong depression. She also encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do; she supported me unfailingly, was my best friend, I could tell her anything and she never judged me. I never really got over her sudden death (heart attack) at the age of 48. She is my hero!

My Mom was and is the best because she worked so incredibly hard as a single Mom for so many years. In addition to everything she worked so hard to give us she always gave us her time, taking us places, working in our classrooms and making ART with us. I owe so much of who I am today to my Mom!!

My Mom took the time to teach me arts and crafts. It wasn't easy because I am left handed and she is right. She had so much patience! She taught me sewing, embroidery, needlepoint, rug hooking, knitting and crotchet. What patience!!! It inspires me to have patience with my children and take the time to teach them - three girls, all right handed!
Cheers, Denise

my mom has always been the greatest creative inspiration for me....she comes from a long line of creative women, learning and teaching me early on to try to make whatever we can for the joy and the frugality of it too.
i am blessed to have her as my mom

I am in awe of my mother - even more so after the birth of my son. I struggle with one. She raised four kids. She is the most determined woman I have ever met. I firmly believe that there isn’t anything she can do. Although we don’t always see eye to eye – I hopelessly sentimental and she is no nonsense practical - I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m grateful that she chose me.
